Terms of Service

The terms for talonlabs.dev, a Talon Labs account, and Talon Studio — whose software is licensed under the Talon Labs Community Edition Licence.

Last updated 27 September 2026DRAFT — PENDING COUNSEL REVIEW

Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of talonlabs.dev (the "Site"), any Talon Labs account you create on it, and the software Talon Labs ("Talon Labs", "we", "us") publishes — today, Talon Studio. By using the Site, creating an account, or installing the product, you agree to these Terms. If you accept them on behalf of an organisation, you confirm that you have authority to bind it, and "you" then means that organisation.

1. The product

Talon Studio is a self-hosted detection-engineering platform: it helps you author, test, version and deploy security detections to your own SIEMs. It runs on infrastructure you control. Talon Studio reads metadata (index names, field schemas, sample events for testing) from the SIEM connections you configure and writes detection content back to systems you control; it does not ingest or store your raw security event logs.

2. The software licence

The software itself is licensed to you under the Talon Labs Community Edition Licence, which ships as the LICENSE file with Talon Studio. That licence, not these Terms, sets what you may do with the software, and where the two conflict about the software, the licence governs.

  • Community Edition — no charge. Talon Studio runs with the Community key that comes with a Talon Labs account, within the usage limits the product applies. It costs nothing and it is not open source: you receive the right to run the software Talon Labs publishes, not its source code.
  • Enterprise Edition — in development. It is not on sale. When it is offered, it will be unlocked by a licence key from Talon Labs and governed by a separate written agreement or order form, which prevails over these Terms where the two conflict.
  • When an Enterprise key expires or stops being valid, the software returns to the Community Edition.

3. Your account and the Site

  • An account is how you get your Community key: Talon Studio does not run without a key. Keep its credentials secure — you are responsible for what is done with it.
  • Give us accurate information, and do not use the Site to probe, attack, overload or scrape it, or to impersonate anyone. Security research done in good faith under our vulnerability disclosure policy is the exception: that policy authorises it.
  • We may suspend or close an account that breaks these Terms. You can close yours at any time from your account page (Profile → Your data → Delete account). Closing it does not end a Community key already issued: that key keeps working under the Community Edition Licence.
  • How we handle personal data is set out in the Privacy Policy and on the Cookies & Analytics page.

4. Your responsibilities when you run the software

  • You are responsible for the security of your own deployment — credentials, network exposure, backups and access control for any instance you run are yours to configure and maintain.
  • You will not use Talon Studio against a SIEM, system or account you are not authorised to access.
  • You are responsible for complying with the licences of third-party components and content bundled with or downloaded through the software, listed in the third-party notices that ship with it.
  • Agents in Talon Studio propose; people approve. What you approve is your decision and your responsibility.

5. Hosted services

Talon Labs does not currently operate a hosted version of Talon Studio. If it offers one, that service will be governed by a separate written agreement.

6. Feedback

If you send us suggestions, bug reports or other feedback, about the Site or Talon Studio, you allow us to use it for any purpose, with no obligation to you. You never have to send any.

7. Disclaimer of warranty

THE SITE AND THE SOFTWARE ARE PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TALON LABS DOES NOT WARRANT THAT DETECTIONS AUTHORED, VALIDATED OR DEPLOYED THROUGH TALON STUDIO WILL DETECT ANY PARTICULAR THREAT OR ATTACK. Talon Studio is an aid to your own judgement, not a guarantee of any outcome.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Talon Labs is not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from use of the Site or the software, except as a separate written agreement with Talon Labs expressly provides. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

9. Changes

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, the date at the top of this page changes, and a signed-in account is asked to accept the new version before carrying on.

10. Contact

Questions about these Terms or the licence: legal@talonlabs.dev.
